For the Contemporary program, the artists drew inspiration from the landmark exhibition A Joseph Cornell Exhibition for Children, held at the Cooper Union Gallery in New York in 1972.
In the exhibition, the 69-year-old artist displayed his own works at children’s eye level, at a height of about 90 cm. Inspired by this gesture, Perspectives from Point Zero proposes an interaction with artworks at the level of children’s perception, capitalizing on the frankness and freedom of their reactions, which stem from a pure perception unaltered by adult conventions and rationalization..
A simple reconfiguration of the artworks’ positioning also places adults in the uncomfortable situation of bending down or kneeling to view them, thus becoming vulnerable.
The works not only tell a story or illustrate a theme but open a dialogue about perception and the relationship with art according to age and experience.
Our proposal simultaneously aims to cultivate an authentic relationship between audiences of all ages and the artworks, leaving room for an individual but also collective experience that redefines the limits of perception, interpretation, and understanding of art.
The exhibition is organized by Plastic, an art space in Cluj closely linked to the Mircea Pinte art collection, envisioned as a dynamic organism whose purpose is to generate dialogue with other contemporary artworks and diverse audiences.
