Opening:

With: Șerban Savu, Mihnea Mircan, Mihai Pop

Completing Șerban Savu’s exhibition What Work Is in the Romanian Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale (2024), the present book is published by Galeria Plan B and Idea Foundation and edited by Mihnea Mircan and Bertha Savu. Newly commissioned essays map the landscapes – political, art-historical, affective -against which the artist’s studies unfold. Savu’s paintings illuminate both the futility of work and the impossibility of rest, portraying anonymous and recognizable characters as a continuously reorganized human scenery for ideological ruptures, architectural anachronisms, and the uneven distribution of progress. The essays are accompanied by a consistent amount of reproductions of Savu’s artworks, covering the Venice presentation but extending beyond it.
