Artist Stalk#2 with Cristina Curcan
(Artist Stalk)

Opening:
30 September 2025, 18:00

moderated by Corina Bucea
Sometimes, the most interesting conversations with artists don’t start with their work, but with much simpler things: what made them pause recently, what they can’t stop thinking about, what they noticed on a day when they weren’t looking for anything in particular. At Artist Stalk, that’s exactly where we like to stay – in the unplanned zone of the conversation. An Artist Stalk is a conversation about anything but one’s own practice, which opens up another perspective on the things around us and brings us closer to the person who is the artist, rather than to the status of being an artist.

Cristina Curcan (b. 1984) is a visual artist and curator based in Cluj-Napoca. She is the co-founder of Lateral ArtSpace (2012–) and Colateral (2022–), two artist-run initiatives established in Cluj-Napoca. Together with artist Lucian Indrei, she co-authored the Smiling Back at Strangers (2022) publication, a visual diary documenting a decade of Lateral ArtSpace.

Working as an artist under the name musz, she draws on her background in visual arts, fashion and textile design. Her practice spans a wide range of media and is rooted in a personal perspective, often transforming intimate fragments into shared experiences. Through this process, she seeks to bridge the private and the collective, offering subtle reflections on identity, memory, and everyday realities.

Her recent local exhibitions include the solo show I Would Never Say This In Public at MATCA Artspace (December 2024), followed by Run Artist Run (February 2025) and Familiar Tides, Unfamiliar Shores (March 2025), both at Contemporar. She is currently featured in the group exhibition Aşa ieşi din casă? at White Cuib, on view until October 23, 2025.

Artist Stalk is a concept developed by Indecis artist run (Timișoara) and adopted by Contemporar in Cluj.

For the inaugural edition of Artist Stalk Cluj (September–October 2025), three artists from the local scene are invited to join the conversation. Each artist will also propose a single work installed in the gallery space, that acts as a key reference: a work that has marked them, shaped their artistic sensibility, or shifted their perspective in a lasting way.
